Should I Continue?

I am a girl

A young girl

Who's weaponing up for her future

I dream of my success

I dream of my dynasty

But

There's something which stops me

Not really stops

But creates a resistivity to my path of

Fulfilling my dreams

It is so because

Of the woman

I've seen

And have grown with

I've seen a woman

Who dreamt of being a chemist

Who have lived with science

And have always wanted to do so

From childhood to adolescence

Chemistry amazed her

More than a handsome boy ever did

BSc MSc PhD

And a lot more of those degrees

Made her life

More than bangles ever did

Failures in balancing the chemical equations hurt her more

Than the taunts

"You're too pretty to do science"

Ever did

Her family was supportive

Is what she mentioned once

Her father supported and so did her mother

Every family parties

And even official once

The guests knew

It was the daughter of the house

Who was the attraction

Because she was ambitious

"Woh chemist hona chahti hai

Abroad padhna chahti hai"

Said her mother

To the guests

And nothing but laughter and best wishes followed

She did her BSc

And her MSc too

When someone in the family poked

And reminded her mother

"She was 25

And it's the time to marry"

"No no no no

I want to continue with my studies

Please!!"

She cried and begged

But who would listen to her

In a middle class family of the 1990's?

Good looking, successful,

Intelligent partner

Is what she got instead of her PhD

Was she happy?

Do you think so?

But she was a woman

Who dreamt of success

And built the tallest building of her success

By gathering the bricks

Since she was a child

How can marriage

Break that building?

How?

She was a mother too

She was a wife

A daughter

A daughter in law

An aunt

And what more

But above all

She was the chaser of her dreams

When she was to choose betweenHer family and career

Sorry society

She chose her career

She's successful

She's the best professor

In the most renowned colleges of the world now

She's successful

She's overpowered

And her dreams came true

The day she chose to leave

Her family

The society said

She was an irresponsible mother

She failed to be a WOMAN

Because she crossed her limits

The society praised her success

And criticized her too

It is the very same society

Who pushes the young girls

To dream and follow them

Also it is the same society

Who throws dirt when they do so

Dear Society,

Please decide what you want from us

Success or Settlement?

Because both

Isn't possible
