Immortal Beloved
(Based on Ludwig Van Beethoven’s piece ‘Fur Elise’)
Time has flown away,
But the memories haven’t.
I still remember you,
Never to be forgotten.
Your eyes held wonders
Of some old-beloved past.
I have not yet forgotten you.
My immortal beloved!
Sunlight drips into your hair
Which twirl about, in the whimsical wind.
Where have you gone, oh
My immortal beloved!
Your memories still hover in my mind
Now everything is empty
But still, I ask
Why did you break my soul, my immortal beloved?
Your footsteps echoed around the corner,
Where the last rays of the Sun mixed with the blue river.
The bonds which we made so dear,
The sky which calls out to us for joy,
Where have they gone, or did they
disappear like you, my immortal beloved?
Soft and white your complexion was,
The memories have never faded,
Oh my immortal beloved,
Where have you gone?
These questions haunt me
Reminding me of the golden times.
They are all now in the past, but
not you, my immortal beloved!
Death had you in his eyes,
And he then struck you with his scythe!
He laughingly took your soul away,
But why did you still smile then – my immortal beloved!
Your lips were still rosy – at the near end of your journey…
I stay awake evermore,
To see for any sign of your form,
For I know for sure,
You’ll return someday – my immortal beloved!
All of a sudden – in the dead of a night
I felt I couldn’t wake up.
And before my eyes, I saw
the reaper, grinning his black teeth,
and then, he struck his scythe, making my eyes close!
Then they opened, and I saw –
In the quiet moonlight,
Stood my – immortal beloved!
We both embraced each other,
The joy of reunion,
And so I am once again face-to-face,
With my love of long ago,
Hand-in-hand, we treaded through the silvery path,
And her eyes still held wonders,
And now her hair dripped with moonlight.
My immortal beloved – but what was her name?
Oh yes, a sweet one – Elise!
