The Lost War
We were
surrounded.
Gunshots and
cries,
From every
direction sounded.
I was armed, my
friend wasn't.
All he had was
a battered helmet.
I heard the
clicking of a reload,
And saw 15
fingers on triggers, set.
At this moment,
my life flashed before my eyes,
Those boasts of
an invincible army - Lies, all lies.
In haste, I
roared, and pressed the triggers,
And kept
shooting around with my guns.
Then I dropped to the ground, and in my sight,
Sixteen bodies
fell to the bloody earth, adding to the millions.
I had defeated
the enemy, but shot one more,
I had won the
battle, but lost the war.
