Elegy
(Based on ‘Adagio Cantabile’ from ‘Sonata Pathétique’ by Ludwig Van Beethoven)
The day is
dark - dark and bleak
No flowers seem to bloom…
The heart has
turned cold,
So have the
emotions…
For she was
gone –
Gone – and
never to return again,
Never to
return…
The sky starts
to darken,
The pain –
burns in the soul…
Pain of losing
someone,
Gone, and
never to return…
Never to
return…
Tender
memories float by,
Of a happy
unknown past…
Alas, that too
has gone…
Left along
with her – and
never to
return…
Never to
return…
Sometimes, the
shadow of bliss comes,
To light me
up, and the
heart’s
solitary darkness…
Everything feels
darker now,
More bleak and
colder…
Yet,
sometimes,
When I lay
over there, in the enveloping cold darkness,
Hope comes, to
heal me –
Heal me of my
deep paining scars…
No roses
today, but
Withering
creepers infest thy mind,
And though how
much hard I try,
This darkness
– oh, this darkness
Grows even
more….
However dark
my heart is now,
Sometimes,
white flurries of relief come over –
Come over me
to help me, strengthen me,
In the
despairing void I live in now…
I remember how
we used to play,
Out in the greenery,
In the yellow
and mellow sunshine,
Beneath the
shadowy trees, in the grass…
We made love…
The stream now
looks desolate,
Yet, in the
afternoon sunshine,
The memories
of a forgotten Lenore,
Come by me;
flood me with silent tears…
That day,
black clouds
hung over the
sky as shadows,
The wind
mourned over –
Over the sad
tomb, I cry.
Dark and
bleak,
Cold is my
heart now…
Gone are the
days of the mellow sunlight,
And now – just
darkness
Bitter
darkness engulfs me...
Oh, Death
seems to be sweeter!
The memories
flood by,
Like a gentle
stream of thought…
I stare –
stare into the little light
That Hope
bought with it,
And smile –
smile at the memories of one
Who would
never come back again…
Never to
return again…
Never to return…
The past seems
so distant now…
The present is
littered with dark thoughts,
Cold emotions,
bleak conscience.
Darker and
bleaker; the future seems now…
The shades of
grey mean nothing…
The memories
still flood by,
Of a golden
time,
Me and the
one, who
would never
come back again…
Never to
return again,
Never to
return…
