Feuilles
(Based on ‘Variations on a Theme by Corelli’ by Fritz Kreisler)
The sunlight
drips, drips on the leaves,
Oh, the
green, sublime leaves!
Glisten up,
toss their heads,
In the
gentle burlesque breeze!
The chromate
seperates in two –
Godly
yellow, and Venusian green
And these
diffuse up, to form
A kaleidoscope
no one saw before!
And when the
Sun droops down,
O’er the
edge of a valley,
The leaves sparkle,
floating like
Wind chimes,
and emitting sweet melodies…
When there’s
a strong wind,
The leaves
waltz in a ferocious manner,
Gentle
breezes make those green heavens
Sway and
swing in the wind…
And whether
clouds hide the Sun’s glory,
Whether
darkness covers up all of a sudden,
Nay, my dear
one, they stand still,
The chrome
green glistening in the dark…
When the scorching
afternoon sun strikes the leaf
It seems as
if it will burn it alive,
But soft!
The green being just smiles,
Chromatizing
the air with VIBGYOR’s middle hues…
Do leaves
really have emotions?
Can leaves really
speak out?
Are the
reports that they are like us,
Behave like
us, true?
Alas! The tragic
chapter of life comes,
Autumn sets
in, signalling the farewell…
Brothers
depart, coaxing the crying newbies,
As they fall
down to the earthen floor…
Winter makes
it impossible
To survive;
they chatter in the blizzard,
Yet smile,
for they know
Reunion was
just a season away…
Glorious
Spring comes,
Blooming every
little flower,
The trees
fill with a lush green colour…
The leaves
reunite with their pals!
A warm, cosy
afternoon comes
Dripping the
leaves with sunlight,
Now, as
night approaches,
And as I
slip into my forest bed,
I whisper
gently,
Just like
them, when they sway and swing
In the
waltzing air,
And whisper
gently these words:
‘Bonne nuit,
chère feuilles!’
