Dear One...
(Translated from a poem by the same
poet)
I’m nothing,
but a fallen leaf,
Of Hemanta,
just being trampled
by the
numerous feet which go over me,
Thereby
making my existence similar to a phantom…
I’m a
traveller, having no place to go,
I’m a lost
lover, cut off from the one
Who promised
to come back
this very
day, but
never came
back…
Under the
weight of numerous feet,
I’ll be lost
once more…
How shall
you tie me?
Why do you
still profess your love,
Dear one?
You are free
You are
blissful…
Don’t try to
entangle yourself with me…
Bless your
soul, for
The Almighty
doubly blesses,
And the
double blessing, well
It gets to
me…
Your
happiness lights my smile,
Your sorrow
makes me cry,
Your essence
was with me…
Your essence
is still with me…
The day has
come, to change ourselves
To set off
in a new direction…
Bid adieu to
me, dear one,
Let me be
lost somewhere else…
Someday,
perhaps we’ll meet again unexpectedly,
I’ll welcome
you, whispering
that I’m the
lost traveller…
The same
traveller whom you left…
Who lives on, while being lost…
I love you,
dear one
But no, I
can’t tie you up forever…
After all,
you can’t keep me to yourself
for time immemorial…
As my death nears,
by
The violent
trampling of feet…
Just
remember one thing,
Your essence
is still with me…
Your essence
will still be with me…
