Journey of a Leaf

(Based on ‘Turkish March’ from ‘The Ruins of Athens’ by Ludwig Van Beethoven)

A leaf, green in colour,

Breaks off from its mother branch,

And then it waltzes in the air,

Oh, what a dance this lil’ one shows!

Strong gusts of wind then blow it away,

Away, away and far from home!

The green leaf stays tight, tighter,

and fearful of its journey ahead.

But he knows it best, knows

That he’ll land someplace safe.

Suddenly, it falls,

It falls down,

Tumbling, twisting

Into a lake!

The leaf now gets scared

for his life, but he knows

where he’ll land at last…

A tempest blows, making the leaf

Tumble everywhere,

Topsy, turvy, curvy, slurpy

The leaf waltz in unknown time,

But knows a time will come, when it

reaches someplace safe…

The leaf sails safely,

Sometimes, dancing in the wild breeze,

Sometimes remembering his fellow folk,

When he was still attached with the oak tree…

And talked with them numerous fantasies of the world…

Suddenly, a gust of wind,

Blows our lil’ protagonist away,

As it holds on for its dear life,

It goes yet again dancing,

Turning, slanting,

Waltzing, rocking

Till it smoothly continues its journey…

And at last, the leaf

green in colour,

falls onto the earthen floor,

Where it is met by the

other members of the clan.

And then, it realises,

as the morning sun slants down upon him

That the season was none other than…

Autumn!
