Surprise!

Hi!

It’s me.

(who?)

Sylvia Hopkins, but you can call me ‘Sil’.

Kinda cute, huh?

Today’s a very special day for me.

It’s my birthday!

My 20th birthday.

Wonder why I am so excited and twittering about like a tiny 3-year-old?

Well today, I’m going to know the truth.

The truth about a crime.

A crime which is so very much linked to me. The police haven’t been able to identify who it is. They’ve instead picked up a rando serial killer by the name of Javed Skriller – known to have murdered over 30 young women and 15 children.

Fools, if only they did some investigation…

As I cover my head with the hoodie of my black turtleneck jacket, I realized that it had been exactly 3 years ago…

3 years ago before that crime was committed…

I stepped onto the little porch. It was my friend’s house, Alicia Patrick. She was a very good friend of mine.

Wait, had I arrived at the right time?

I checked my watch. Nah, it was okay. 7th December. Her birthday.

And the time was right too. Just 15 minutes left…

I silently sild into the arch which was the entrance to the house. Evening was falling fast…I had to do my work fast, or else…

I heard muffled voices coming from the inside as I…

By the way, you’re also in this with me, right?

Good!

Coming back…

…coming from inside as I picked the lock. I intended to give a surprise to her. A surprise gift!

What better way was there to scare the wits out of her!

Just as she had done so on my 17th birthday…

As I stepped carefully onto the ground, I felt the hilt in my jacket. This was it. Don’t get scared now…don’t get…

As I stepped up the stairs, I felt my stomach burn again. Oh dear, not again…

Why does it do like this every time…?

Oh god, I’m still not free from it! But perhaps…

As I reached near Alicia’s bedroom, I heard two voices…one was of hers, and the other one…

Was it Javed?

‘I’m telling ya…its now too late…’

‘But what if…? Javed, I know that its been 3 years, but I’m still afraid…what if…what if…she…’

‘Cut it, Alice! You were the one after all who told to do it…now look…’

Saying this, he violently jerked her shoulders, at which she got scared and threw him off. When he got up, I could see his eyes get red…

‘Well, so it comes down to this, eh? You call me up, I thought for some…you know, giving you a gift or some sort, and now you just call me to make me doubt about that murder? Al, I’m wanted! Jesus, I’ve killed people! You do realise that…’

(Now was the time.)

I silently opened the door. Light flooded on the landing, as I screamed:

‘SURPRISE ALICIA! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!’

The two turned their faces. They instantly turned white.

‘N-no…n-no…’ Javed started stuttering…

‘Thought I was nowhere? Well, here I am!’ And with that – I dunno why – my hands lashed out a knife from my jackets, and stabbed him right in the lungs. He gave out a scream, and then fell down. After a few moments, he was dead…

I was shocked for a couple of moments

(remember that time?)

then, shaking out of my reverie, I turned towards Alicia…

‘I-I thou-ught t-that…’

I smiled…

‘3 years. 3 years have passed by. Yet I still couldn’t believe you did that. But so, what? It’s your birthday, girl! Have this!’

Saying this, I took out a thing from my pocket. This time, it was two pieces of a vanilla marble cake.

‘Well, I couldn’t do much, so…’

Alicia – still frightened and white like fudge – took the cake pieces and started eating it, as if hypnotized.

At the first bite, she suddenly realized what she was doing, then she spoke out:

‘YOU VILE B-’

But before she could take one more step, she fell down to the floor, groaning with her hands in the stomach. I smiled. This reminded me of a very familiar incident, my dear audience friends…

After a few moments or so, the house stood still. I guess Alicia’s parents had gone somewhere. Before their arrival, I had to get out…

After safely coming out

(it took 2 minutes)

I bolted the door. As I walked back down on the footpath, a feeling of emptiness came over me…

I could not return back to my house.

I cannot show myself to anyone…

After all, how could all my friends and family believe that the girl they were seeing in front of them was the 17-year-old teen who had been poisoned, stabbed, and was found dead lying cross-legged on her chair?

Nah, no one would believe it. Neither would they believe that Alicia had done it…motive? I guess jealousy would be fine. I hit the guy she loved…her top man…and I was kinda always getting the top of everything…

Alicia gave me a good surprise that day. 5th November, 1979. 15 minutes past 7...

Poor Javed…he didn’t have anything to do with it…he could still be roaming about the streets of Manhattan to find new victims…but he fell into her trap...blackmailed...

(I've been watching a

As I now stand over my burial spot, I thank all my audience friends who were with me on this semi-nocturnal adventure. The truth, at last, I ‘ve found it out. However, I’m extremely sorry for keeping y’all in the dark for so long…

After all, you are not like me, who has been now locked for three years in never-ending…

Darkness….

Au revoir…

My dear friends!....

This is Sylvia 'Sil' Hopkins...signing off....
